Where to Hunt Ghosts on Cannock Chase this Halloween

Where to Hunt Ghosts on Cannock Chase this Halloween

Cannock Chase in Staffordshire is known around the world for being one of the most haunted locations on the planet. The 26-mile-square forest has been the site of thousands of paranormal encounters dating back hundreds of years, with reports of ghosts, phantoms, a pig-man, werewolves, black eyed children, and more.

Halloween is a popular time for the Staffordshire woodland as ghost hunting teams and brave locals venture into the forest in search of something spooky. This year is no different to any other. There are already ghost walk events listed on Facebook, and as we enter Halloween week, more and more people will take late night outings in the hope of witnessing something paranormal for themselves.

This article contains everything you need to know about the best locations on Cannock Chase for ghost hunting. All of the areas mentioned have played host to numerous supernatural encounters over the years, and they're probably the places in which you are most likely to see something unusual.

Castle Ring

Constructed more than 2000 years ago by a Celtic tribe known as the Cornovii, Castle Ring is an ancient hillfort that exsists at the highest point of Cannock Chase. There is a pub nearby and a small car park. Entry is free, and anyone can take a walk around the area in search of ghosts this Halloween.

Local people have reported seeing werewolves at this location, as well as ghost-dogs, spirits, and the elusive Pig-man. Legend has it the Pig-man was the result of some military experiments that happened in the prisoner of war camps on Cannock Chase during WW2, and there is a rhyme that children recite in local playgrounds that goes:

When night falls, enter the woods at your peril
For inside, lurks something worse than the devil
Avoid at all costs, the gathering place
Where at midnight, the Pig-man roams on Cannock Chase

The path around Castle Ring is quite accessible, but wheelchair users might experience some issues. Still, it's a great little walk, there's a fantastic view out over Rugeley and the rest of Cannock Chase, and it's a hive of supernatural activity.

Birches Valley

Birches Valley is a large area of woodland in Cannock Chase that has a visitors centre, a childrens play area, and lots of other activities during the daytime. However, when the sun goes down, Birches Valley is probably one of the spookiest parts of the forest.

The dense woodland has many paths you can walk in search of ghosts, and sightings of the famous Black Eyed Child are commonplace.

In 2014, the Black Eyed Child phenomenon put Cannock Chase in the international news for a number of weeks. Ever since that time, there have been hundreds of sighting reports, and some ghost hunting teams have even managed to capture video evidence.

German Cemetery

During WW2, Cannock Chase was used as a military training ground and prisoner of war camp. When the war ended, the UK made a deal with Germany that resulted in more than 5,000 German war dead being buried in the Staffordshire forest. To this day, it is one of the most haunted locations on Cannock Chase.

People often report seeing the ghosts of soldiers wearing German and British uniforms in the graveyard and around it. There are even reports of a werewolf being spotted in the cemetery that once made it into the local news.

The graveyard itself is closed at night, but there is a road you can walk down that runs alongside it. There is only a small wire fence which does not obstruct your view, and so it's the ideal place to observe the area looking for ghosts.

Most reports of paranormal activity tend to happen in the early evening through to around 2am.

Pye Green Tower

Built as part of the UK's Cold War emergency communications network, this structure is visible from almost everywhere in Cannock Chase and much further afield.

The Pye Green tower has long been the location of many UFO sightings, and there are even police reports that detail mass encounters with unexplained objects in the area. However, most people were unaware about paranormal reports associated with the tower until recently.

In the new book, Ghosts of Cannock Chase, paranormal investigator and author Lee Brickley highlights a series of sighting reports in which people have witnessed the ghost of a man stood outside the Pye Green tower attempting to stop cars for a lift.

Many local pepple have encountered this spirit, and it is said to be the ghost of a man who used to work there during the 1950s or 60s.

Allegedly, the man would always thumb a lift home after work in the evenings, and for whatever reason, his spirit still does.

Whatever you decide to do this Halloween or wherever you decide to go, stay safe.

Bigfoot Footprint Found in UK on Cannock Chase

Bigfoot Footprint Found in UK on Cannock Chase

Cannock Chase is known around the world for being the site of the most paranormal encounters anywhere in the UK. This photo was taken by paranormal investigator and cryptozoologist Lee Brickley in the forest in 2019. He recently published a book detailing his investigation into the British Bigfoot that contains this image and stacks of other evidence that points towards there being a man-monkey type creature residing in the Staffordshire Woodland.

On the Hunt for the British Bigfoot

On the Hunt for the British Bigfoot

As a child growing up in the UK, I was deeply fascinated by documentaries

I’d see on the television containing Bigfoot sighting reports from the USA.

I’d sit watching them with my father and fantasise about what it would be

like to encounter such a creature for myself. In the days before the internet,

it wasn’t so easy to come across information relating to cryptids, and there

was certainly never any mention of such a beast residing in the British Isles.

I became completely engrossed in those stories, and my passion of discovering

the truth about Bigfoot still remains to this day.

I launched my official investigation into the British Bigfoot in 2019, and this book contains the results of more than a year’s work in the field. I encountered many strange and often spooky stories during those fourteen months. I spoke to witnesses from the British Isles that claim to have seen creatures that broadly match the description of Bigfoot, and I managed to get my hands on some astounding photographs that could prove the existence of a man-monkey-type lifeform existing in the UK today.

Almost all reports of the British Bigfoot come from an area of Britain known as Staffordshire, and many of them happen at a place known around the world for UFO sightings and paranormal occurrences: Cannock Chase. Is there some kind of supernatural connection to the UK Bigfoot sightings? While it’s impossible to say with any level of certainty, there is lots of information in this book that could well prove a solid link, and it’s a theory we will explore throughout these pages together.

Of course, not all sightings of Bigfoot appear to link to otherworldly elements, and so it’s sensible to keep an open mind as to the origin of the following reports. It could be that the beast is simply part of a previously-undiscovered race of primates that exist in small groups or alone in different places around the world. Scientists find new species every single day, and none of the animals they discover are attempting to hide from humans. That is why it makes sense that it would be difficult to identify a race of beings if they made a concerted effort to conceal themselves.

Is the British Bigfoot a threat? Well, as you will read in this publication, that depends on how one encounters it and what their intentions are. It seems very clear the beast does not wish to engage with humans, and would rather be left alone. Indeed, those who get too close often regret their decision soon after. Put simply: if you go around trying to chase this thing, you do so at your own risk! It’s big. It’s strong. And it really doesn’t want to be disturbed!

I hope you enjoy this book and find my investigation into the British Bigfoot as fascinating to read as it was to perform.

My days of chasing this creature are far from over, but this is a chronicle of my findings thus far.
